Life Journey

Cheong Wong is a seasoned clinical psychologist with diverse life experience. He was born in Malaysia, obtained his primary school education in Singapore, his high school education in Perth, and then went on to complete a double degree in Engineering and Commerce at UWA. Cheong’s search for the meaning of life led him to India where he spent 9 years at a Tibetan monastery learning Buddhist teachings. During this time he also studied Christianity, Islamism, and Hinduism; he taught English to Tibetan refugees, was a medical worker, a translator between English, Tibetan, and Mandarin, and also a counsellor.

When Cheong returned to Perth from India, he wanted to pursue his passion for helping others. He enrolled in a Bachelor of Psychology at Murdoch University and worked as a disability support worker during his studies. Cheong completed his psychology degree in 2016 with 1st class honours, and started working in the psychology field. Cheong is now a clinical psychologist.

Psychology Experience

Before opening peaceNtranquillity, Cheong worked in multiple group private practices treating  clients with various mental health conditions. He also provided group Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and trauma counselling at an organisation that supports victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. He worked as a psychologist in employment services supporting people who experience work related stress or who have barriers to employment. He supported adolescents and young adults by providing psychology therapy, intake assessments, and referrals at GP Down South, a youth medical service. He also worked at two NDIS organisations (Rocky Bay and St. Jude's Disability Services) in a multi-disciplinary team supporting people who  predominantly present with Autism and Intellectual Disability.

peaceNtranquillity

Cheong brings knowledge and experience gained from: working within multi-disciplinary teams in large organisations; group-based private practices; and additional years of study in Master of Clinical Psychology and its intensive clinical supervision pathway. The goal of creating peaceNtranquillity is to fill a gap in the private mental health system where clients can heal in an affordable and professional therapy space that provides flexible and caring support. Additionally, the room is designed to be specifically friendly to those with sensory  needs and those who like a cosy and calming place to heal.
